This HOODWINK AWARD goes to the all those people who will do anything to prevent any celebration of the life of Jesus Christ. This award should also include all those victms of this assault for not fighting back and demanding that those elected officials, church and religous leaders who feign support of Christianity become pro-active by publically presenting the life of Christ.
THE REAL CHRISTMAS STORY THIS YEAR IS HOW IT SEEMS THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO DENY THE REASON FOR THE HOLIDAY.
We now have all kinds of groups actively trying to make Christmas a godless celebration. As if naming it XMAS or Winter Holiday or demanding that merchants, public offices and schools be limited to offering Happy Holidays rather than Merry Christmas, wasn't enough of an afront to Christians. I guess the next step is to have a bunch of racists wanting to change the Martin Luther King holiday, or a communist group wanting to change our President's Day holiday, to another indistinguishable HAPPY HOLIDAY.
Now, as a Christian I might be a bit biased by the facts of Jesus Christ's influence on civilization, but I certainly believe that Martin Luther King and the President's we celebrate, would agree that His life had much more of an impact than even their important contributions. So you fans of Dr. King and George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, watch out for those politically correct people who don't want you to be able to express your appreciation for what those folks brought to our country, if what Christ brought to all of civilization is diminished.
Quite a few years ago, as a State Senator, I SPONSORED AND passed legislation in my state of New Mexico to encourage public schools to teach about Jesus Christ's life on earth. It was a memorial that expressed legislative intent that Jesus Christ was an important enough of a figure in history to be taught about in courses that dealt with the history of civilization. The need for such legislation was made evident when teachers and students alike were being discouraged from mentioning anything about Christ in the days leading up to the CHRISTMAS holiday we used to celebrate because of His birth and the influence He has had on the human race.
I kept thinking "What's there not to like?"
Are people worried about the example He might be to kids? What if students looked upon Him as a role model or hero as they now do to sports and entertainment figures? With many of the examples of heroes currently out there, it probably couldn't hurt to add Christ to the admiration. Who knows, maybe the world would be a better place. And why aren't our politicians, who are supposed to represent our values and always seem to proclaim how respectful they are of their Chrisitan constituents, fighting to protect against this attack on Chrisitanity? Why don't they become more proactive in recognizing Christ's life on earth by demanding that schools teach of His life as they do about all the historical figures, both good and bad, that produced the history of our civilization. It's about time we all stood up and fought for something positive, instead of complaining about how we're always being picked on. A true belief in the benefits from the Life of Christ demands nothing less.
AND God knows we need to.
